The City of Decatur hosted their annual Holiday Tour of Homes. This year's tour features homes with the theme of Living Green. Southeast Green was the only publication allowed to take pictures of the homes. Granted most of ours were of fixtures in the bathrooms and ceiling insulation…not your usual interest in the home decorations and holiday greenery. The Living Green tour definitely proves that having a house and it being green does not sacrifice these families sense of home.

Thanks to the City of Decatur and all the home owners who welcomed us into their homes and allowed us to photograph.

Achieving the City of Atlanta’s sustainability goals is a critical part of the our strategy to cut costs and improve efficiencies in operations.  The Office of Sustainability and the Office of Enterprise Assets Management are focused on the implementation of no-cost energy and water conservation measures that will reduce both utility costs and greenhouse gas emissions.  Leading examples of the City’s efforts include reprogramming heating and air-conditioning controls to ensure that systems shut down as much as possible during unoccupied periods.  This is expected to result in 15-20% energy savings in City Hall and will correspond to annual cost savings of over $120,000 for this building alone.

The additional participating cities, which included Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, San Francisco and Washington DC, will each receive $100,000 for tree planting projects in those cities that will be spearheaded by local environmentally-focused organizations.
